External genitalia = vulva internal = vagina.
Mons pubis: fat lying on anterior of vulva
Labia majors: outer two folds of fat and areolar tissue covered in skin and pubic hair.
Labia minors: smaller folds that lie between majora upper layer passes above clitoris forming prepuce, lower hangs below clitoris forming frenulum, fuse posteriorly to form fourchette.
Vestibule: enclosed by minora includes urethra and vaginal opening.
Then Urethral orifice and Vaginal orifice.
Anatomy of females pt 2
Majority of clitoral tissue is internal the external part has clitoral glams densely filled with nerve endings internal part has extremely vascular erectile tissue (lots of blood)
Blood supply from internal and external pudenal arteries + corresponding veins, lymphatic drainage (inguinal glands).
Vagina located anterior bladder, posterior rectum, superior uterus, inferior external genitalia. Posterior wall longer 10cm anterior wall around 7.5cm. Lined by rug saw (folds that can expand) kept moist ph of 4.9-3.5
Anatomy of uterus
Anteversion (leans forward) and anteflexion (folded forward)
Fundus: domed upper wall between insertions of uterine tubes.
Cornuae: upper parts of uterus where uterine tubes join
Cavity: within body of uterus triangle
Isthmus: 7mm long at junction of body and cervix.
Cervix: made of columnar epithelium that secrets mucus stops things coming in or going out eg penis or baby, internal os(narrow opening between isthmus and cervix) external os(opening at end of cervix)
Layers
Layer of peritoneum
Myometrium (muscle)
Endometrium (functional layer thick and shed) *basal layer where functional regenerates)
