Validity Flashcards
1
Q
Validity
A
- Describes the accuracy of the measurement and the degree to which the test measures what you intended to measure
- Conclusions from invalid tests will be inaccurate
2
Q
Construct validity
A
- creating a measure
- face validity: looks like it measures the right construct
- content validity: does the content of each measure reflect measure the construct
3
Q
Criterion validity
A
- Does the measure behave as the theory predicts
- predictive validity: can the data predict future events
- known groups validity: does the measure differentiate between groups as expected
- convergent validity: measures of the same construct have similar results
- discriminant validity: measure is not related to groups it shouldn’t be
4
Q
Making valid test items
A
- Use unambiguous language and both positive and negative items to avoid response bias
- Items should assess all aspects of a construct
- Avoid social desirability bias
