validity Flashcards
internal validity
refers to whether the effects observed in a study are due to the manipulation of the independent variable and not some other factor
external validity
the extent to which the results of a study can be generalised to other settings (ecological validity), other people (population validity) and over time (temporal validity)
demand characteristics
ppts behave in a way which is favourable to the experiment
ecological validity
can u apply the findings to different situations
temporal validity
results generalised to other time periods
population validity
results can be generalised to other people
how to reduce demand characteristics
single blind procedures- the ppt doesn’t know which condition the research they are taking part in
deception-giving a false hypothesis to the ppts
face validity
concurrent validity
