Validity Flashcards
content validity
does the measure cover all aspects of the construct?
so for emotion, it would have to cover all its aspects like physiological response, behavioral response, subjective experience
this might not be best subject because its such a complex and wide-spread construct but only one that comes to mind
face validity
does the measure appear valid by looking at it?
least scientific way of measuring validity
construct validity
does the measure actually measure the construct in reality
does it cover all behavioral aspects of depression for example
based on theory
convergent/ discriminant validity
convergent - does the masure overlap in outcome with other measures of the same construct
discriminant - does it differ from tests measuring other constructs
internal validity
does the independent variable really lead to the outcome?
if the dependent variable can accurately be predicted with the independent variable then you achieve internal validity
are the results of an experiment due to the treatment or research variables?
external validity
can results be generalized beyond the sample
statistical conclusion validity
accuracy of sampling procedures
appropriate statistical tests
reliable measurement procedures
criterion validity
also instrumental validity
predictive validity
performance on the measure is very similar to actual outcome
