Validity Flashcards
What is validity?
This refers to how accurate a test/study is.
-(There’s 3 types- internal, external and ecological).
What’s internal validity?
This refers to whether the test/method used is actually testing what it’s intended to. Whether the IV is causing the DV, this is low when a study is poorly controlled/has extraneous variables.
[if high then the IV is affecting the DV]
[if low, other factors (extraneous variables) might be affecting the DV].
What’s external validity?
This refers to whether the results from a study can be generalised to other settings/people beyond the original sample/setting studied.
[if high then yes they generalise]
[if low then no they don’t generalise].
What’s ecological validity?
This is a form of external validity, it’s the extent to which the results of a study can be generalise from the set of environmental conditions created nu the researcher to real life circumstances.
