Vaders Renal Phys - Renal functions Flashcards
1
Q
Vander’s Renal Physiology
A
Chapter 1 - Renal Functions, Basic Processes and Anatomy
2
Q
What is ‘balance’
A
for an individual cell all substances that enter or that are produced by the cell must be exactly
equal to the same substances which leave or are metabolized by the cell- if not the cell will die due to uncontrolled volume.
inputs and outputs are exactly equal,
Maintaining the steady state requires energetic input
3
Q
What are the 7 functions of the kindey
A
- Regulation of water and electrolyte balance
2 Regulation of BP and extracellular fluid volume - Excretion of metabolic waste and foreign substances
- Regulation of RBC production
- Regulation of acid-base
- Regulation of Vit D production and regulation
- gluconeogenesis
4
Q
How do the kidneys affect BP
A
- determine blood volume
- hormonal change resulting in SVR
5
Q
What causes a release of EPO?
A
Local decrease in tissue O2
Anaemia, decreased renal blood flow,
During CKD renal metabolism decrease resulting in more O2 which means EPO is not released appropriately
