V4C2 MOI Flashcards
The branch of physics dealing with objects in motion and energy exchanges that occur as these objects collide
Kinetics
The branch of physics that studies the motion of a body or system of bodies without consideration given to its mass or forces acting on it
Kinematics
The two basic principles of kinetics are
The law of inertia and the law of energy conservation
Tendency of an object to remain at rest or in motion unless acted on by an external force
Inertia
The energy of an object in motion
Kinetic energy
Occurs as an object physically enters the body and directly or indirectly injures tissue
Penetrating trauma
Occurs when kinetic energy forces, but not the object, enter the body and damage tissue
Blunt trauma
Occurs when impact abruptly stops a portion of the body while inertia causes the remaining structures to continue in motion
Compression injury
Occurs as one part of the body is pulled away from another
Stretch injury
Occurs along edges of the impacting forces or at organs attachments
Shear injuries
What are the five types of impact?
Frontal, lateral, oblique, rear end, rollover.
