Uveitis Flashcards
What are the 2 different onsets of uveitis?
acute
chronic
What are the diffferences between acute and chronic?
1) ACUTE= sudden onset
CHRONIC= insidious onset
2) ACUTE= Symptomatic
CHRONIC=mild-no xymptoms
3) ACUTE =limite duration less 3months
CHRONIC= more than 3 months -persistent
4) ACUTE= may be recurrent/repated episodes
CHRONIC= persistent inflammation
acute exacerbation
What is anterior uveitis?
inflammation of iris and or ciliary body
What are the 3 types of anterior uveitis?
1) iritis
2) Iridiocyclitis_ (iris+cb)
3) cyclists- ciliary body
What affects intermediate uveitis?
pars plana, extreme periphery of retina and vitreous
What affects posterior uveitis?
inflammation of structure behind the posterior border of vitreous base
-choroid
-retina
What are the types of posterior uveitis?
-choroididtis
chrioretinitis
-retinochoroiditis
-retinitis
What are the 2 types of causes of uveitis?
1) endogenous
2) exogenous
What is the exogenous cause?
infection -virus fungi, bac etc
e.g. herpes simplex, toxoplasmosis,TB
What is the exogenous cause?
trauma: external injury to uvea
invasion of micro organisms
What are the symptoms of intermediate uveitis?
1)floaters
2) reduced/blurred vision
3) bilateral , asymetric
4)15-40yrs
5) no pain or light sensitivity
What are the signs of intermediate uveitis?
1) inflammation cells in vit
2) neovas
3) optic disc swelling
4)CMO
5) reduced VA
snowball /snow bank formation
snow ball formation
snow banking
Name conditions that can cause appearance of cells in vitreous?
ocular ischemia
RP
asteroid hyalosis
rhegmatogenous detachment
retinoblastoma
What causes posterior uveitis?
Toxoplasmosis
