Describe the signs and symptoms of uveitis
Signs - dilated blood vessels, circumlimbal flush, miosis, aqueous flare, hypopyon, posterior synechiae
Symptoms- pain, photophobia slightly reduced va
Signs and symptoms of intermediate uveitis
Signs - vitreous cells, snow banking
Symptoms - floaters, reduced va, no pain, redness or photophobia
Describe the signs and symptoms of posterior uveitis
Signs - vitreitis, choroiditis, retinitis and vasculitis
Symptoms - floaters, reduced vision, no pain, redness or photophobia
What is the cause of each uveitis symptoms
Miosis - sphincter spasm
Hypopyon - due to white blood cells
Aqueous flare due to proteins from iris blood vessels
Posterior synechiae - due to iris adhesion
Describe the management of uveitis
Urgent referral to HES - letter to gp, ophthalmology will insert a mydratic and topical steroids, may prescribe systemic steroids and ophthalmologist will observe.
What systemic conditions cause uveitis
Rheumatoid arthritis
Ms
Inflammatory bowel disease
Posterior synechiae
Active arthritis
