A

a breakdown of the blood retina barrier. tumours and choroidal inflammation may also cause this

what causes traction detachment

A

contraction of fibrovascular tissue of the retina. can be due to diabetic retinopathy

what causes rhegtmatogenous detachment

A

a retinal break, a PVD may be present and seen as a giant tear, if pvd present free fluid can spread and will be rapidly progressive. if no pvd present will progress slower early treatment is also advised

A

horseshoe tears, any pigment or blood in the vitreous, visible detachment,

what are treatments of detachment

A

once referred
ophthalmology will:
close break
internally- PPV and tamponade
externally - buckle and cryo
then create a permanent adhesion between the rpe and retina

A

loss of central vision
metamorphisa
may be asymptomatic is other eye has good vision
