At least one of the following: *Temp >100. 4 o F on 2 consecutive occasions *Acute dysuria (pain) * New or increased frequency, urgency, incontinence * New flank or suprapubic pain * Hematuria * New onset cognitive impairment (consider other causes)
Criteria for suspected UTI with indwelling catheter
At least one of the following with no other recognizable cause
*Temp > 100.4
o F on 2 consecutive occasions
*Suprapubic tenderness
*Costovertebral angle pain or tenderness
* New onset cognitive impairment (consider other causes)
If UTI criteria present you would
obtain urine for ua

empiric treatment agent first line
nitrofurantoin 100mg bid X5d
nitrofurantoin creatinine clearance for use
> 60 suggested
30 is max
<30 leads to toxic
