Uses of monoclonal antibodies Flashcards
1
Q
how can we use monoclonal antibodies to diagnose disease
A
identify specific pathogens because the monoclonal antibodies bind to specific antigens
covid test - rapid antigen test
2
Q
how can monoclonal antibodies treat disease
A
carry drugs and target specific antigens
3
Q
how do we use monoclonal antibodies for a pregnancy test
A
- urine with hCG hormone applied to stick
- urine moves down the stick to mobile enzymes with specific antibodies for hCG and a dye actibating enzyme tag on them. hCG binds to the antibodies
- hCG moves down stick to zone with immobilized antibodies that binds to different part of hCG molecule (this is the positive line of test)
- then the mobile antibodies that are unbound go down to the control point where there are immobile antibodies specific to the mobile antibodies so they bind and form control line
