Q

Radar Trail Departure

A

RTD should be flown as below:
- All ac are to use 45°AoB to fly Dep Proc ground track, avoid early turns
-20 sec stream achieves a 2nm trail, use overtake to close if req’d, monitoring Vc and AF to achieve range.
-Do Not place the VV on the TD box to avoid collision if closure is generated inadvertently
-Wingmen must fly within 1nm to be a ‘standard formation’. If the formation requires more spacing or has >2 ac, a non standard formation must be requested with ATC
-MIDS PPLIa are only to be used to enhance SA, not to be used independently to guarantee safe separation
-Lag RoT for RTD/A & Shadowing, should be used in turns. At 0.7M lag turns by 7°/nm eg 14° at 2nm. At instrument pattern speeds (<300) lag by 14°/nm
