It could be the symptoms for the start of a mire serious illness such as Pneumonia Septicaemia Meningitis Bronchiolitis
What is the normal diration of rhinitis?
10-12 days
Describe what ottits media is.
Ottitis media is an ear infection which presents with fever and pain with redness and a buldging drum.
It is either pirnary viral infectuion or secondary to bacterial infections such as pneumococcus or H influenzae
In ottitis media there may be spontaneous rupture of an ear drum
What is the normal duration of ottits media?
4 days
According to the american academy of paediatricians, what is the category for assesing wther treatment should be given?
6-23 months - non sever bi lateral pain
Over 6 months- uni and bi lateral pain for more than 48 hrs
What is the best treatment for ottitis media?
No antibiotics
Analgesia to treat pain
What investigation is carried out to test for the pathogen which causes the tonsillitis?
Throat swab
What are the 2 pathogens that most commonly causes of to sillitis?
EBV - glandular fever
Groups A streptococcus
What is the treatment for tonsillitis?
Either no treatment or 10 days penicillin
What is the normal duration of a sore throat? ( to tonsillitis)
3 days
What do you treat rhinitis with?
Don’t treat
What is secondary otitis media caused by?
Pneumococcus
Haemophillus influenzae
What are the symptoms of otitis media?
Ear ache
Pyrexia
What do you treat otitis media with?
Analgesia
Not antibiotics
