Urology Flashcards
Trigone
Formed by two ureteric orifices and internal urethral orifice
- Also contains: interureteric fold and uvula of urinary bladder
Where is the involuntary internal sphincter found?
In the walls of the neck of the urinary bladder
What/where is vesical fascia found?
It’s loose connective tissue surrounding the detrusor m.
Male urethra
Preprostatic, prostatic, membranous, spongy
Preprostatic Urethra
Neck of the urinary bladder
Prostatic urethra
In the prostate gland
- Urethral crest, prostatic sinus and seminal colliculus
Relationship of urethral crest, prostatic sinus and seminal colliculus
Median ridge that swells in center of prostate gland as the seminal colliculus and is surrounded on either side by the prostatic sinus.
What does membranous urethra travel through
Through external urethral sphincter
- Very short
Spongy urethra
- Found in corpus spongiosum
- Intrabulbar fossa, navicular fossa and urethral glands
Intrabulbar fossa
Internal expansion of spongy urethra in the bulb of penis
- Contains openings for ducts of bulbourethral glands
Navicular fossa
Internal expansion of spongy urethra in glans penis
Urethral glands
Mucus secreting glands that empty directly into the glans penis
Female urethra
Contains paraurethral glands and urethral glands
Paraurethral glands
Homologous to prostate gland, w/ secretions conveyed via common duct to an area near external urethral orifice
Urethral glands
Mucus secreting glands that empty directly into urethra
