What is urine composed of?
96% water
2.5% (mostly urea) nitrogenous waste
1.5% salts
Where is urea produced?
in the liver
When is urea formed?
When excess proteins are broken down (de-aminated)
Where does urine flow from and to?
It flows from the medulla into the renal pelvis
What does the renal pelvis do?
The renal pelvis collects waste and carries it into the ureter
What do the ureters do?
The waste (called urine) is carried by the two ureters to the bladder
What does the bladder store?
urine
What type of organ is the bladder?
It is a muscular organ that is not under voluntary control
How is control of urnitaion caused?
By the ability to control the sphincter reflex
Where are the 2 sphincter muscles located?
they are located at the junction of the bladder and urethra.
