Difference between ASB and UTI
A
ASB does not require treatment
Uti require antibiotics

A
Presence of at least 10^5 bacteria /ml

Uncomplicated UTIs
A
In healthy adult woman
Non prégnant
No fever, nausea, vomiting flank pain
No risk factors
Majority caused by E coli and other gram neg bacilli (proteus, enterobacter, klebsiella, pseudomonas)

3- group b strep, enterococcus

Complicated UTIs
A
All male patients
Most common species : proteus klebsiella pseudomonas serratia enterococcus fecalis
Strep agalactiae(diabetes, immunosuppressive, catheter use)

Uti in pregnant women ? Treatment
A
Nitrofurantoin, ampicillin and cephalosporins
