What organ may be involved in UTI?
What is this associated with?
A
Kidneys - pyelonephritis
Usually associated with fever and systemic involvement, or may be due to cystitis (No fever)

Why is UTI important in children?
A
- Up to half have structural abnormality of urinary tract
* Pyelonephritis may scar kidney – predisposes to hypertension and chronic renal failure if bilateral.

What clinical features of UTI are commonly seen in infants? (8)
A
- Fever
- Vomiting
- Lethargy/irritability
- Poor feeding/failure to thrive
- Jaundice
- Septicaemia
- Offensive urine
- Febrile convulsion

What clinical feature of UTI are commonly seen in children? (9)
A
- Dysuria and frequency
- Abdo pain and loin tenderness
- Fever with/without rigors (excessive shivering)
- Lethargy and anorexia
- Vomiting, diarrhoea
- Haematuria
- Offensive/cloudy urine
- Febrile convulsions
- Recurrence of enuresis (inability to control urine)
