What is a UTI?
A
- it is caused by bacteria in the urinary tract
- pain on urination
- increased frequency of urination
- offensive smelling urine
- suprapubic discomfort
- haematuria

What are some of the complications?
A
- acute symptomatic UTI -> can lead to pyelonephritis
- acute cystitis
- pre-term labour
- acute pyelonephritis - if inadequately treated can result in septicaemia

How is it treated?
A
- identify causative organism by MSU and treat with antibiotics
- repeat MSU after antibiotic therapy
