Urinary System Flashcards
Ureter
A tube that takes urine from the kidney to the bladder
Urinary bladder
Where urine is stored until let out from the body
Renal cortex
Outer region of a kidney
Renal medulla
Consists of the con shapes renal pyramids, which are in the renal cortex
Renal pelvis
Innermost par lot of the kidney that is a hallow chamber
Nephrons
Each kidney is composed of 1 million time tubules. They produce urine
Nephron capsule
Closed end of a nephron is pushed in on itself to form this. Filtration of blood occurs here. The inner layer of the capsule is composed of specialized cells that allow easy passage of molecules. Then we go to the proximal tubule
Proximal tubule
Lined by cells with many mitochondria and tightly packed microvilli
