Urinary System Flashcards
Know the relationship between the color of the urine, the specific gravity and the # of solutes
As the number of solutes increases, the urine color tends to darken, and the specific gravity rises, reflecting higher urine concentration. Conversely, lighter urine with low specific gravity indicates fewer solutes, often due to higher water intake or diluted conditions.
What is the relationship btween color of level of hydration?
The darker the color of urine, the lower the level of hydration
What is reabsorption?
This is the reclaiming of substances such as water, glucose, amino acids and electrolytes from tubular fluid to return them to circulating blood
Why is water usually a solvent?
It is polar and has the ability to form hydrogen bonds, which makes its dissolve many differnt types of molecules easily
What could cause fluctuations of glucose in urine?
When blood sugar exceeds the renal threshold
Why shouldn’t there be a lot of glucose in the urine?
So, a high level of urine glucose may mean that your blood glucose is high, too, and that could be a sign of diabetes.
What does a high level of glucose in the urine indicate?
A large meal or uncontraoled diabetes mellitus
What is ADH?
Anti-diuretic hormone
How does ADH relate to hydration levels?
Antidiuretic hormone (ADH) is directly related to hydration levels because it controls how much water the kidneys reabsorb, essentially regulating the body’s fluid balance
What does ADH do?
Increases water retention
