16
Q

Why is AB universal recipient?

A

Can receive A,B or O both rH positive or negative, Has all agglutinogens on red cells

17
Q

Why is O the universal donor?

A

no antigens (agglutinogens) on the red cells to cause a reaction

18
Q

What is RhoGAM?

A

Drug that binds up antibodies and takes them out of the mom’s system
For when an Rh- mother has an Rh+ positive child, needs to be given within 72 hours

19
Q

What is the function of red blood cells?

A

They carry oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body
They take carbon dioxide back to our lungs to be exhaled

20
Q

What is the function of platelets?

A

Involved in clotting, which stops blood overflow

21
Q

How do you treat bacterial and viral infections?

A

Bacterial Infections: Treated with antibiotics and supportive care.
Viral Infections: Treated with antiviral medications (if applicable) and supportive care. Vaccines are key for prevention in both cases.
