Digestive System Flashcards
Salivary glands
Function: break down carbohydrates
neck looking picture
esophagus
Function: tube for food to go to stomach
in between vagina and hole
liver function and system
Function: produces bile that helps break down fats, digestive and endocrine
actually looks like chopped liver
Stomach
Function: holds food and mixes it with acid and enzymes to break down food into chyme and protein digestion
irregularly shaped, right next to the intestines
Gall bladder
Function: stores and concentrates bile – then released into the duodenum to help break down and absorb fats
(pretty deep, almost green in between what looks like liver)
Small intestine
Function: break down food, absorb nutrients into the blood stream
(pretty small, what i thought the pancreas looked like)
Spleen (part of lymphatic system)
Function: stores and filters blood, removing old and damaged red blood cells and makes white cells
(to the right of the picture, dark in color)
pancreas system and function
Function: produces digestive enzymes that break down proteins in food, digestive and endocrine
(right next to two blue veins)
Large intestine function and system
Function: absorbs water and electrolytes from partially digested food along with vitamins and digestive
(looks like chicken skin)
Colon (Part of large intestine)
Function: same as large intestine
(looks like a dick)
What is the ileocecal valve so important to the digestive system?
Prevents backflow of bacteria from the large intestine to the small intestine preventing infection
(long path, only one that’s a cartoon, tube)
Greater Omentum
Function: protective barrier over intestines against infection and inflammation
What is the function of the larynx?
Voice box , ability to produce sound
Trachea function and system
Allows passage of air in and out of the lung and respiratory
What is the function of the cricoid cartilage? and what is the system?
marks the lowermost portion of the larynx; and. protects the larynx, respiratory system

Seperates the oral cavity form the nasal cavity and aids swallowing and speaking, digestive system
Epiglottis and whats system?
Prevents food and drink from entering the windpipe, digestive and respiratory
Bronchus function and system
Carries air to and from the lungs and respiratory system
What is the GI tract composed of?
The small intestine, splen, gall bladder, liver, stomach, urinary bladder
What is the thoracic cavity composed of?
The trachea, heart and lungs
What is th function of the uterus and what system?
To nourish the developing fetus prior to birth
Uterine horn
Only present in females, used mainly for sperm transportationb and site for fetal gowth and development during pregnancy, reproductive system
Urinary Bladder function and system
Storage and emptying of the bladder, urinary
Ureter function and system
Filtration of blood and creation of urine as a waste product, also for the transportation of urine from the kidneys to the urinary bladder, urinary system
Urethra function and system
Carries urine from the bladder to the rest of the body, allowing urination
What is the function and the system of the vas deferens?
transports mature sperm to your urethra , male reproductive
What is the function and the system of the inguinal canal?
Reproductive system, a pathway by which structures can pass from the abdominal wall to the external genitalia.
What is the function and system of the spermatic cord?
The spermatic cord holds the testicles in place within the scrotum. Male reproductive
Kidney function and system
remove waste products from the blood and produce urine, urinary system
Ovary function and system
Produces eggs, female reproductive

Urination and sexual intercourse, male reproductive system
Scrotum system and function
Bag of skin that holds and protects the testis, male reproductive
Testis system and function
Produces sperm, male reproductive
Lungs system and function
The lungs allow you to breathe by exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide: , respiratory system
pulmonary trunk
carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs
apex
helps pump blood from the ventricles to the rest of the body
Nasopharynx
Connects nasal passages to rest of the respiratory system
