Urbanisation Flashcards
What is urbanisation

What is the difference between a push and a pull factor
a push factor is a negative factor which pushes a person away from an area, whereas a pull factor is a positive factor which attracts a person to a place
Identify pull factors
more employment and jobs | better access to services like education and healthcare | peace | safer climate
What are the 3 reasons why urbanisation in HIC’s are slowing
1) Improvements in communication to rural areas
2) Improvements in infrastructure e.g train
3) De-industrialisation happened losing traditional industries like textiles
Why does better infrastructure mean that urbanisation is slowing in HIC’s
people can live further from work in cities and commute to work by train or roads
Why does better services like education and healthcare mean that urbanisation is increasing in LIC’s
people can be treated for illnesses so life expectancy is increased as is quality of life | better education means people can get a higher skilled job and a higher income, improving quality of life
Why does young people migrating mean that urbanisation is increasing in LIC’s
young people migrate for work, have a family and increase the birth rate. The death rate falls as the life expectancy is higher so the total population in cities rises. This is called natural increase
