CBD
Central Business District
Urban Decay
is when part of a town or city becomes rundown e.g. boarded up shops. Unemployment and other social problems may increase in such areas
Gentrification
the process by which part of a city changes from being a poor area to a richer one, where people from a higher social class live
Derelict Land
land which has been neglected or abandoned
The Gorbals
an area is Glasgow’s Inner city
Urban Sprawl
the growth of towns and cities spreading and taking over areas of the countryside
BrownField Sites
land which has previously been built on but is no longer in use e.g the site of an old factory . Most commonly found in the Inner City
GreenField Sites
land which has not yet been built on but is now being considered for a new development e.g. agricultural land found in the Rural/Urban Fringe
Commuter Settlement
a place where people live and travel elsewhere for work
GreenBelt
the area around a city where development is restricted so that towns and cities do not merge
Business Park
an area of offices and modern factories located on the outskirts of a settlement (also called and Industrial estate).
