What was the London congestion charge scheme?

A

•London have introduced a “congestion charge” which charges anyone who drives into the centre of London. This prevents people from taking cars where it can be prevented and walking or taking bikes instead.
•This was effective as there was a 37% increase of people using the bus reducing greenhouse emissions from by 16% from 2002 to 2003. However, 25% of businesses considered moving out of the congestion charge zone and retailers have commented they have seen a decrease in sales

A

•Oyster cards in London charge people for the cheapest travel routines during the day encouraging people to use the bus
•The government have contributed money to the metro system in Newcastle. These metros are subsidised to keep prices low and runs on electricity so they don’t pollute the city
