Urban: Solutions to Urban Sprawl Flashcards
1
Q
combined landfill & power plant
A
- rather than landfills being on greenbelt land, they can be combined with heat/power plants
- eg. on old rail yards as Millerhill
- this is beneficial as it preserves green spaces
2
Q
expand towns
A
- expansion of towns means development takes place away from the city
- eg Wallyford, where 7,500 new homes were built in 2018
- this means green land is lost in other areas rather than solely around the city
3
Q
redevelop inner city
A
- eg. Leith
- modern housing, shopping centres and entertainment (Ocean Terminal) can be built on brownfield sites
- prevents loss of green spaces
- effective as Leith has become a popular area
4
Q
improvements to public transport
A
- would reduce the need for new roads outside the city
- has worked to an extent but there are still problems with the city bypass and surrounding roads
