what is urbanisation and how does it link to the uk?

-the rise in proportion of people living in urban areas compared to rural.
-in the late 1800s, lots of people moved into uk cities to work in cotton and textiles industries

how does urbanisation vary in different economies?
A
- in LICs, urbanisation is low for example in Ethiopia 2019, 20% of the population lived in rural areas.
- in NEEs, urbanisation occurs rapidly. for example, in 1980, about 18% of chinas population was in urban areas; in 2020, 60% lived in cities.
- in HICs, urbanisation starts to slow as cities become more developed. 1950- 79% urban, 2013- 83% urban pop.

what are the main causes of urbanisation?
A
- lower average age in cities so birth rates remain high.
- push factors from rural areas now such as farming automation.
- urban pull factors such as developing economies focus more on services, more entertainment.
