Global Circulation Model Flashcards
What causes wind?
Wind is caused by change from high air pressure to low air pressure.
What causes change in air pressure?
Air pressure changes are caused by different temperatures around the globe causing there to be areas of different air pressures.
Name the different global atmospheric circulation cells:
Moving from the equator:
- Hadley
- Ferrell
- Polar
What happens to air pressure at the equator and how does this affect the 30 degree line of latitude.
It becomes low due to the heat moving air up and when the rising air cools down, it travels downwards to the 30 degree latitude lines causing higher pressure there with low rainfall due to the heat.
What are three key characteristics of a low pressure belt?
Clouds
Rain
Rising air
