CBD
A central business district is the commercial and business center of a city. It contains commercial space and offices.
INNER CITY
in older cities, near the centre and surrounding the CBD
(Poor quality housing with a lack of gardens. Old industry in decline or shut down. A declining population with high unemployment.)
OUTER SUBURBS
area towards the edge of a city, characterised by larger often detached houses and modern housing estates.
Urban-rural periphery
zone of transition between the built-up area and the countryside, where there is often competition for land use.
COUNTRYSIDE
sparsely populated and either left as wilderness or with farming as a major economic activity. (A rural area)
