Why does rural-urban migration speed up the rate of urban growth
Because most of the migrants are young meaning more likely to reproduce. This means there is natural increase as well as urbanisation
What is a Mega City
A Mega City is a city with a population of over 10 million
What is a World City and what is it measured on
A World City is a city that is the most influential and powerful. It is measured on development, economy, liveability, culture, environment and accessibility
What Is suburbanisation
Suburbanisation is when the suburbs become urbanised and merged into the city
What happens during suburbanisation
Shops start to locate there, open spaces start to get developed on, and vacant semi-detached houses get bought and turned into flats
Reasons for counter-urbanisation
Counter-urbanisation is movement of people out of the city. Because of pollution (air, light, noise), fear of crime, high cost of living, housing prices going up, and lack of space
Problems with rapid urbanisation
Traffic congestion, shortage of hospital spaces and schools, poverty, growth of slums, lack of employment, and lack of access to food/water
