UQ Muscle & Soft Tissue Length Flashcards
1
Q
Pectorals Major (Clavicular Fibers)
A
- POSITION: supine, arm horizontally adducted
- PASSIVE horizontal abduction of arm
- Assess END-FEEL
- PALPATE
SA: parallel to support surface
F: acromion process
MA: lateral epicondyle of humerus - MEASURE angle from supporting surface to humerus
- Opposite shoulder must stay flat
2
Q
Pectorals Major (Sternal Fibers)
A
- POSITION: supine (body angled so acromion is at edge of table), arm putting sword into opposite pocket
- PASSIVE abduction of arm to ~130 degrees, hand supinated
- Assess END-FEEL
- PALPATE
SA: parallel to support surface
F: acromion process
MA: lateral epicondyle of humerus - MEASURE angle from supporting surface to humerus
- Use small goni; watch for excessive muscle length
3
Q
Pectoralis Minor
A
- POSITION: supine, arms at sides with palm up and lumbar spine flat on table
- No movement
- Assess space between scapula and supporting surface
- PALPATE
Anterior acromion process - MEASURE from supporting surface to anterior acromion process
- Use tape measure
4
Q
Latissimus Dorsi/ Teres Major
A
- POSITION: supine, arm at side with thumb up
- PASSIVE flexion of arm
- Assess END-FEEL
- PALPATE
SA: lateral midline of trunk
F: lateral acromion process
MA: lateral epicondyle of humerus - MEASURE amount of shoulder flexion
- Lumbar arching indicative of latissimus tightness
5
Q
Biceps
A
- POSITION: supine, arm off edge of table, elbow flexed, hand supinated
- PASSIVE hand pronation then extension of elbow and shoulder
- Assess END-FEEL
- PALPATE
SA: lateral midline of trunk
F: lateral acromion process
MA: lateral epicondyle of humerus - MEASURE amount of shoulder flexion
- Avoid abduction at shoulder; lumbar stays flat
6
Q
Triceps
A
- POSITION: sitting at end of table, arm fully flexed
- PASSIVE flexion of elbow keeping hand supinated
- Assess END-FEEL
- PALPATE
SA: midline of humerus
F: lateral epicondyle of humerus
MA: radial styloid process - MEASURE amount of shoulder flexion
- Avoid flexion of shoulder
