- Reassurance, come back if get worse, maybe antibiotics

- Self-limiting condition
- Runny nose
- Symptoms normally last
- 50% for 7 days
- 20% for 14 days

- Prodrome to other illnesses
- Pneumonia, bronchiolitis
- Meningitis
- Septicaemia

A
- If primary
- Usually viral infection
- If secondary
- With pneumococcus/haemophilus

- Self-limiting
- Characterised by redness – Erythema
- Ear pain
- Bulging drum
- Spontaneous rupture of drum
- Symptoms usually last 3 days, but can last up to 7

- Antibiotics usually don’t help
- Analgesia

- Could be viral or bacterial
- Bacterial cause usually streptococcal
- If viral do not treat, if bacterial treat
