Conductive: EXTERNAL or MIDDLE ear problem
Sensorineural: INNER ear, cochlear nerve or central brain connections problem
Describe the Whisper Test.
Doc Stands behind Pt and Pt will occlude 1 Ear; Doc whispers a combination of 3 letters and numbers
Normal: Patient correctly repeats the sequence or after 2 sequences, can identify 3 of the 6
Abnormal: Pt INCORRECTLY identifies 4 of the 6
Differentiate between Weber and Rinne Tests.
Weber: Vibrating tuning fork is placed on top of the Patient’s head.
- Normal: Sound lateralizes to BOTH ears equally
- ABNORMAL: If sound lateralizes to one ear, it is either conduction loss in that ear or sensorineural loss in the OPPOSITE ear (check with Rinnes)
Rinne: Vibrating tuning fork is placed on mastoid bone
- Normal: AC > BC
- ABNORMAL: If AC = BC or BC > AC there is CONDUCTIVE LOSS in that ear!
** If Webers test was ABNORMAL and Rinne Test was normal, suspect Sensorineural loss in the OPPOSITE ear

INFERIOR!
Where would you palpate for the Frontal and Maxillary Sinuses?
Frontal: Press up under Bony BROWS
Maxillary: Press up lateral to the nose
