Q

Differentiate between a Valgus and Varus Stress Test.

A

Valgus: Testing the Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL)

Varus: Testing the Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL)

Test is done at 30 degrees and 0 degrees. If you have a positive test @ 0 Degrees, that means you might have a problem with the JOINT CAPSULE

Q

Describe the three tests that will test the integrity of the Patellar Cartilage.

A
  1. Patellar Grind Test: Press down on the Patella and move it medial and lateral. (Positive test indicates: Inflammation, Chondromalaica or injury to the patellofemoral articular surfaces)
  2. Patella-Femoral Grinding: Compress patella in trochlear groove and have patient flex Quadriceps against resistance (Positive Test Indicates: Chondromalacia)
  3. Patellar Glide Test: Slow extend and flex the knee while placing your hand lightly over the patella (Positive Test indicates: Possible damage to the articular surface
