WHAT IS CHOKING ?
Choking occurs when an object becomes lodged in the throat or windpipe, blocking the flow of air.
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
FOREIGN BODY BECOMES LODGED IN THE LARYNX OR TRACHEA.
IF A FOREIGN BODY BECOMES LODGED IN THE LARYNX OR TRACHEA, IS IT DANGEROUS.
THIS IS THE MOST DANGEROUS AND IS CUASED BY COMPLETE AIRWAY OBSTRUCTION.
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF SMALLER FOREIGN BODIES WHEN IT COMES TO CHOKING.
SMALLER FOREIGN BODIES MAY PASS BELOW THE VOCAL CORDS AND MAY BECOME LODGED IN THE CARINA OR WITHIN THE BRONCHUS.

ASSESS THE SEVERITY

- ENCOURAGE COUGHING
CONTINUE TO CHECK FOR DETERIORATION TO INEFFECTIVE COUGH OR UNTIL OBSTRUCTION IS RELIEVED.
