Upper limb Flashcards
Where does the axillary artery arise from?
Subclavian artery at the lateral border of the first rib
Where does the axillary vein arise from?
Continuation of the brachial vein which becomes the axillary vein at the lower border of the theres major muscle
What is the muscle of the anterior wall of the axilla?
Pectoralis major
What is the muscle of the posterior wall of the axilla?
Teres major
Trapezius muscle - location
Triangular muscle on the superior back
Trapezius muscle - descending fibres (superior) function
Shrugging shoulders
Trapezius muscle - horizontal fibres (middle) function
When you put arms back and scapulae come closer together
Trapezius muscle - inferior fibres function
Rotate the scapula
Latisimus dorsi muscle location
In the back
Inferior to the trapezius muscle
Trapezius muscle - nerve supply
CN XI
Latisimus dorsi muscle - function
Extension of shoulder joint
Adduction of upper limb at shoulder joint
Internal rotation
Arterial supply to upper limb
Subclavian artery -> Axillary artery -> Brachial artery -> Radial and ulnar arteries -> Superficial and deep palmar arches -> Digital arteries
Venous drainage from the upper limb - superficial veins
Dorsal venous network
Cephalic veins
Basilic veins
-Drain blood into the deep veins
Cephalic vein drains the MEDIAL/LATERAL aspect of the arm and forearm
Lateral -> subclavian vein
Basilic vein drains the MEDIAL/LATERAL aspect of the arm and forearm
Medial -> axilary vein -> subclavian vein
