16
Q

Carpal tunnel - contents

A

Tendons of FDS, FDP, FPL

Median nerve

17
Q

Carpal tunnel syndrome - when does it arise

A

If the median nerve is compressed due to swelling in the tunnel

18
Q

Carpal tunnel syndrome - which part of the median nerve is NOT affected?

A

Palmar cutaneous branch

- it is given of proximal to the tunnel (thus central palm sensation is unaffected in carpal tunnel syndrome)

19
Q

Anatomical snuff box - what is it

A

Triangular depression on the radial, dorsal aspect of the hand

20
Q

When would the anatomical snuff box become tender

A

Fractured scaphoid

21
Q

How do you anaesthetise a finger before hand surgery?

A

Ring block technique

- deposit LA in a ring around the base of the finger which anaesthetises all 4 proper digital nerves

22
Q

Why is adrenaline not used as a LA when preparing for hand surgery?

A

Proper digital arteries are end arteries
