Upper Limb Flashcards
Rhomboids
ACTION: stabilization, retraction, elevation, internal rotation of scapula
NERVE: Dorsal Scapula (C5)
ARTERY: Dorsal Scapula Artery
Levator Scapula
ACTION: flex head and neck laterally
NERVE: Dorsal Scapula (C5)
ARTERY: Transverse/ascending cervical artery
Dorsal Scapular Nerve
(C5)
innervates rhomboids and levator scapulae
Infraspinatus
ACTION: external rotation
NERVE: Suprascap (C5-6)
ARTERY: circumflex scapular artery, suprascapulary artery
Surpaspinatus
ACTION: elevate scapula, abduct arm
NERVE: Suprascap (C5-6)
ARTERY: suprascap a.
Pectoralis Major
ACTION: adduct, int rot, flex arm
NERVE: Lateral Pectoral Nerve (C5-7); Med Pect Nerve (C8-T1)
ARTERY: thoracoacromial artery
Suprascapular Nerve
Upper branch, C5-6
Innervates Infraspinatus and Supraspinatus
Musculocutaneous Nerve
(C5-7) innervates coracobrachialis, biceps brachii, and brachialis ACTION: NERVE: ARTERY:
Coracobrachialis
ACTION: flexion, adduction, internal rotation
NERVE: Musculocutaneous Nerve (C5-7)
ARTERY: brachial artery
Biceps Brachii
(long = lateral)
ACTION: flex at elbow, supination, adduction
NERVE: Musculocutaneous Nerve (C5-7)
ARTERY: brachial artery
Brachialis
ACTION: flexion of elbow joint to flex arm
NERVE: Musculocutaneous Nerve (C5-7)
ARTERY: brachial artery
Flexor Muscles in Forearm
MEDIAN NERVE (C6- T1) & ULNAR ARTERY Pronator teres (pronate) Flexor Carpi Radialis (wrist + abduction) Palmaris Longis (wrist) Flex Digitum Superficialis (PIP flex)
5 Intrinsic Hand Muscles
Median Nerve (C6-T1) Innervated: *2 radial lumbricles (artery: superficial palmar arterial arch
*3 thumb: (RECURRENT MEDIAN NERVE)
opponins pollicis (opp),
abduct pollicis brevis (abd),
flexor pollicis brevis (flex)
superficial palmar arterial arch
arises from terminal ulnar and superficial palmar branches of radial artery
most of the supply is by the ulnar artery
Supplies palmar hand and surface of digits (except thumb and dorsum of distal phalange segs of 2-5th digits
Radial Nerve
(C5-8) innervates posterior extensors of arm at GH and elbow joint and posterior forearm:
triceps brachii long, short, and medius (brachial artery; action: extension and adduction of the shoulder joint, extension of elbow joint)
(though many supplied by branches of radial)
Posterior Forearm:
brachioradialis (posterior interosseous artery; action: flexion of forearm at elbow)
extensor carpi radialis longus (radial artery; action: wrist extension and abduction)
innervates a superficial cutaneous branch
triceps brachii
long, short, and medius
- radial nerve (C5-8)
- brachial artery;
- action: extension and adduction of the shoulder joint, extension of elbow joint
brachioradialis
radial nerve (C6 - T1) posterior interosseous artery action: flexion of forearm at elbow
extensor carpi radialis longus
radial nerve (C6 - T1)
radial artery;
action: wrist extension and abduction
Deep Branch of Radial Nerve
(C7-8) innervates:
extensor carpi radialis brevis (action: wrist extension and abduction; radial artery)
supinator (action: supinate forarm; posterior interosseous artery)
extensor carpi radialis brevis
Deep Branch of Radial Nerve (C7-8)
action: wrist extension and abduction;
radial artery
