Upper Extremity - Medical Interventions Flashcards
Rhythmic stabilization
Different types of soft tissue mobilization
- effleurage: broad strokes
- petrissage: kneading and rolling
Cross Friction massage
Indication: soft tissue injury
Goal: maintain soft tissue mobility, increase circulation
**MUST be on target tissue!! move perpendicular to the muscle fibers
~1-2 minutes
Passive stretching
indication: soft tissue hypomobility that limits ROM
goal: lengthen affected tissue
Overview: lengthen muscle and hold for 15-30 seconds, release, repeat
Hold/Relax for posterior cuff stretching
Joint mobilization grades
- grade 1
- grade 2
- grade 3
- grade 4
posterior glide of shoulder
posterolateral force to clear the glenoid
inferior glide of shoulder
move the whole humerus as one
mobilize in varying degrees of abduction toward axilla
GH joint mobilizations: when to use
limited ROM, pain
goals: decrease pain or improve mobility
overview: patient should be comfortable and relaxed, loose-packed position vs End ROM, ~45 sec or until you feel tissue change, test-retest!
GH joint distraction
GH joint posterior glides
GH joint inferior glides
passive range of motion (flexion, abduction, ER, IR)
Mobilization with movement (MWM)
scapulothoracic mobilizations
Sternoclavicular joint mobilization (posterior and inferior)
Acromioclavicular joint mobilization
Thoracic Spine mobilization
Neurodynamics (nerve sliders and tensioners)
Nerve Sliders: acute
Nerve Tensioners: chronic
Indications: “nervy” symptoms
Goal: improve nerve health and mobility
Median Nerve
Ulnar Nerve
Radial Nerve
