Upper Body Kin Test Flashcards
Classification on Fibrous Joints; Bones that fit tightly together, bound to one another by more or less inextensible connective tissue
- Immovable; Synarthroses, growth plate
- Partly moveable; Syndesmosis, amphiarthrosis
Classification of Cartilaginous Joints; Immovable Joints during growth plates, and the joint between the first rib and the sternum
Partly moveable; amphiarthrosis
Immovable; Growth plate
Features of Synovial Joints; Freely movable within ligaments, characterized by articulating bones
- Joint cavity
- Joint capsule; Attached close to articulating end of each bone involved
- Synovial membrane
- Synovial Fluid; secreted by membrane for lubrication
- Articular Cartilage
- Ligaments; used for binding & supporting the joint
Types of Synovial Joints
-Plane/Gliding; Joints between carpals & torsals, flat or curved bones tightly packed
-Hinge; One plane, convex bone within concave bone
-Pivot; Uniaxial, rounded point of one bone fits into groove of another
-Ball & Socket; Triaxial, hip, shoulder, maximize movement
-Ellipsoid; Biaxial, no axial rotation, oval convex surface fits into concave surface
-Saddle; Biaxial, no axial rotation, 2 concave surfaces
Occipital Bone
Superior, site of attachment of layers of posterior cervical, Inferior nuchal line, back side of the skull, buttress (harder bone)
Parietal Bone
Superior, top/backside of skull
Frontal Bone
Front/Forehead bone
Movements the skull can perform
Elevation/depression, protrusion/retraction, lateral movement
Maxilla Bone
Located around the nasal cavity, and above the mouth
Foreman Magnum
Located directly on top of the skull, and is a hole
