Universe Flashcards
What does interstellar mean?
Interstellar is when something is between two stars.
What does supercluster mean?
Supercluster is a cluster of galxies. Inside the galaxies are even more clusters of galaxies.
What is the Solar system?
The collection of eight planets withing a close vicinity of eachother and in the same orbit.
What are planets?
A celestial body that hosts natural resources, life and travels in an orbit.
What are stars?
A bright, fixed point in the sky.
What is the milkyway galaxy?
The milkyway galaxy is the galaxy that hosts human beings. It is estimated that there are 400,000,000,000 stars withing the milkyway galaxy.
What is a light year?
A light year is a unit of measurement with measures the distance light travels within a year.
What is the universe?
The space that hosts all non-living and living things.
What is the moon?
The natural satalite of Earth as well as other planets.
What is a nebula?
A cloud of gas.
What is a galaxy?
A large collection of stars.
What is gravity and what does it do?
Gravity is a force that exerts itself onto objects and living things. Gravity keeps life stable and on the earth.
What is the evidence that suggests the creation of the universe?
Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation, Redshift, expansion of the universe.
What is the steady state theory and why is it wrong?
The steady state theory suggests that the universe had always existed from the beginning and maintains a steady state. The steady state theory is wrong as there is proof for the universe’s existence due to redshift and Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation.
