Universal Email Flashcards
What is Universal Email?
Premium product to enable usage of Branch links in Marketing Emails & deliver click data back to the ESP for reporting
What is an ESP?
“Email Service Providers” are large marketing platforms like Salesforce & Sendgrid that enable marketers to send emails at massive scale
What is a CTD?
“Click Tracking Domains” are web redirects that ESPs & 3rd party marketing providers apply to any links they send. This funnels click traffic through their own servers for reporting, before sending the user to the final web url. This creates issues in iOS, as Universal Links are not able to open an app if they’re triggered by a redirect.
What is a Simplified Integration?
A type of Branch email integration that can automate certain implementation processes by applying a CNAME on the CTD that points to Branch
What does it mean to Auto-Branchify?
A feature unique to Simplified Integrations that can automatically convert a web link into a Branch link, without having to replace the link in the template
What is a Cname?
CNAME is a resource record in DNS (Domain Name System of the Internet) used to map one domain name to another.
What does it mean to Cname?
For the Universal Email integration, it is mandatory to delegate ownership of the domain’s DNS record to Branch, so all traffic proxies through Branch’s servers. This is what allows Branch to transform the link data and ultimately deep link your user.
What is an SSL certificate?
An SSL certificate is a type of digital certificate that provides authentication for a website and enables an encrypted connection.
What is an AASA file?
The AASA (short for apple-app-site-association) is a file that lives on your website and associates your website domain with your native app.
In other words, it’s a safe way to prove domain ownership to iOS.
This is set up in the associated domains on your iOS app.
What is click-wrapping?
Your Email Service Provider (ESP) wraps your links in a domain, often of your choosing or branding. The redirect to this tracking domain allows them to receive the clicks on your emails and provide you analytics before redirecting your user to the destination that you specified in your template.
