Univeriate Anova Flashcards
what does Anova mean? what is it?
Analysis Of Variance, family of tests that all use the same statical theory
what is anova a form of
regression analysis
why are regression and anova split
because they are two different research methods
what does it focus on?
focusses on independent variables = different people / conditions
what is the purpose of an ANOVA
use anova to reduce error rates associated with multiple pairwise comparisons
so you can do multiple testing and to avoid false positives (type 1 errors)
what happens the more you test something
an increase in the likelihood of getting a significant result by chance
what happens when you run ANOVA on spss
gives single p value to see if there is a difference overall, if significant then have justification to conduct comparisons. if not- stop there
what is the null hypothesis
all means equal to one another= mean 1, 2, 3 and 4 etc do not differ.
what is the experimental hypothesis
different between at least one pair of group and population means
what is the group mean
group mean = experimental condition
if the p value is significant then what do you do
look at comparisons between groups - use planned contrasts / post hoc
what does k stand for
no. of experimental conditions
what is the most common correction? but what is the issue with them
bonferroni, increases type 2 error rates
what is the statically significant amount
less than 0.05 = statistically significant
