Complex Designs (between subjects) Flashcards
what are main effects
effect of a single one of the IVs on the Dv in isolation (regardless of other iv)
what is an interaction
combined effects of 2 / more IVs on the Dv
Interaction occurs between IV’s and has a subsequent effect on the DV
what is a complex design
a between subjects anova with more than one IV
what IVs are included
only have IVs if they are part of the hypothesis / things to control for
why do you do complex designs
complex research designs with more than one IV b/c expect an interaction i.e. effect of one Iv is dependent upon the other
what happens if lines diverge / converge?
shows an interaction
what is sample size
the number of participants in the study
its the effect power of study, greater no’s = greater power
more power if expect main effects AND interactions
what is the issue with sample
greater with between subjects ANOVA b/c everyone contributes just one score to analysis
what are the assumptions of complex design
normally distributed data
interval ratio/ ordinal too
homogeneity of variance
