What is coherence?

A

It means “hold together”, the sentences must hold together;
The movement from one sentence to the next must be logical and smooth;
Each sentence must flow smoothly into the next one

Four ways to achieve coherence

A

1.repeat key nouns;
2. use consistent pronouns;
3. use transition signals to link ideas;
4. arrange your ideas in logical order.

what are transition signals?

A

They can appear at the beginning, in the middle, at the end of an independent clause;
They are usually separated by commas; as first, finally and however

Types of logical order:

A

Chronological order – a sequence of events or steps in a process. Is otherwise known as order by time.
Logical division of ideas – a topic is divided into parts, and each part is discussed separately.
Comparison/contrast - are discussed the similarities and differences between one or more items
