Q

What is the relationship between mmol/l and mmol/mol ?

A

mmol is 1000th of a mol. mmol/mol is a ratio of two compounds, on this case the ratio of glycated hemoglobin (mmol) to “regular” hemoglobin (mol)

Q

What does a HbA1c of 5 mean?

A

A hemoglobin A1c (aka HbA1c or A1c) level of 5 is considered optimal. An A1c of 5.0 means that 5% of the hemoglobin in your blood is saturated with sugar. A1c levels between 4 and 5.6 percent indicate good blood glucose control over the last 2-3 months.

Q

what is considered the normal range of hba1c for a healthy person?

A

In healthy people, HbA1c values range between 4.0% and 5.6% (20 – 38 mmol/mol)

Integrative medicine doctors often tighten those parameters to as low as 5.2% (33 mmol/mol) as prevention measures, though this is not part of international guidelines and isn’t supported by research.

Q

What is the hba1c range considered high risk for diabetes?

A

People with HbA1c values of 5.7 – 6.4% (39 – 46 mmol/mol) are considered at high risk for diabetes [13]
