What is the present perfect and what does it tell us?

• The present perfect ( something has happened) is a present tense.
• it always tell us about the situation now

example: Tom has lost his keys = he does not have his keys right now

What is the past simple and what does it tell us?

For example: what does it tell/what doesn’t it tell us about this sentence?

• example: Tom has lost his keys. ?

• I past simple (something happened) tells us only about the past
  example: Tom has lost his keys.
• it does not tell us weather he has the key now or not.
• it tell us only that he lost his key at some time in the past

When can we use the present perfect?

• You can use the present prefect for new or recent happenings.
  
  • I’ve repaired the washing machine. It’s working OK now. ‘Oh, that’s good
  • Sally has had a baby! It’s a boy ‘ that’s great news.

When can we use the past simple?

• for new or recent happenings
  
  • I repaired the washing machine. It’s working OK now.
• for things that are not recent or new
  
  • Mozart was a composer

We use the present prefect to give new information but what do we use if we continue to talk about it?

• if we continue to talk about it, we normally use the past simple
