What is the present perfect and what does it tell us?
A
- The present perfect ( something has happened) is a present tense.
- it always tell us about the situation now
example: Tom has lost his keys = he does not have his keys right now

What is the past simple and what does it tell us?
For example: what does it tell/what doesn’t it tell us about this sentence?
- example: Tom has lost his keys. ?
A
- I past simple (something happened) tells us only about the past
example: Tom has lost his keys. - it does not tell us weather he has the key now or not.
- it tell us only that he lost his key at some time in the past

When can we use the present perfect?
A
- You can use the present prefect for new or recent happenings.
- I’ve repaired the washing machine. It’s working OK now. ‘Oh, that’s good
- Sally has had a baby! It’s a boy ‘ that’s great news.

When can we use the past simple?
A
- for new or recent happenings
- I repaired the washing machine. It’s working OK now.
- for things that are not recent or new
- Mozart was a composer

We use the present prefect to give new information but what do we use if we continue to talk about it?
A
- if we continue to talk about it, we normally use the past simple
exemple:
- A: I’ve burnt myself! B How did you do that? A: I picked up a hot dish.

when should we not use the present perfect?
example:
- They’ve gone away. They’ll be back on Friday. (They are away now)
- It has stopped raining now, so we don’t need the umbrella. (it isn’t training now)
