What does the UN aim to do?
A
Encourage cooperation between state governments
Designed to make the enforcement of international law, security, economic development, social progress and human rights easier for countries

A
- Has 193 members which shows its global governance
- UN promotes peace and tries to resolve conflicts
- Implements human rights across the world successfully
- Protects the environment by creating treaties such as the Kyoto Protocol in 1997
- Works to reduce poverty through MDGs

What are the four negatives of the UN?
A
- Ineffective if countries choose to opt for violence instead of diplomacy
- It cannot act if its actions are vetoed by countries
- It has failed to prevent genocides like those in Rwanda and Myanmar
- The UN has no binding power so countries can ignore what it says
