UNIT4 AOS1 Flashcards
Macrophages
Recognise, engulf and destroy foreign or damaged tissue
Neutrophils
Fast acting and are involved in inflammation. Contain granules which kill engulfed pathogens
Dendritic Cells
Find foreign material in body tissue, engulf and then display foreign antigens. They provide a link to adaptive immune response
Eosinophils
Leucocytes that release cytokines that kill parasites
Natural Killer Cells
Leucocytes that destroy abnormal or infected cells by triggering apoptosis
Mast Cells
Leucocytes that release histamines increasing inflammation
Interferon
A type of cytokine produced by infected cells that inhibits the synthesis of new viral proteins within the cell
Complement Proteins (20)
Stick to invading pathogens, increasing identification by phagocytes, attracting them to area to stimulate their activity. destroy pathogen membranes
